Collection has two parts. The first relates primarily to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial March Committee of Durham, N.C., the organization which mobilized local support for the 1983 march on Washington, D.C. Included are flyers, correspondence, literature, clippings, and letters from U.S. Rep. Walter E. Fauntroy. A smaller section of the papers relate to the M.L.K. Coalition of Conscience of Durham, N.C.

Walter Edward Fauntroy (born February 6, 1933) is the former pastor of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., and a civil rights activist. He is also a former delegate to the United States House of Representatives and was a candidate for the 1972 and 1976 Democratic presidential nominations as a favorite son, as well as a human rights activist.
